Last month, Falco eMotors unveiled a revolutionary e-bike that combines two major bicycling customer segments into a single product with the integration of a digital stationary trainer and a normal e-bike.

For those not familiar with a digital stationary training bike, the bike uses ANT+ wireless technology to connect to any of a handful of training apps (Zwift, Trainer Road, or any of a handful of supported apps) on a mobile device (iOS or Android) or even a Windows PC, and allows the rider to train live against simulated riders or even real people around the world. When training, all the energy expended and captured by the integrated hub is actually used to charge the battery. Not to worry, it can also be charged by plugging it in.

""

After training, the bike can simply be removed from the training stand and used as a normal e-bike out around town, with the Falco app allowing riders to customize just how much help the Falco hub provides for the rider. The seamless integration of the powered hub into the bike makes it ride just like a normal road bike and it makes you look like Superman, powering along on the flats or even up hills without having to break a sweat. If you do want to get a workout, you can turn down the assist to just the right level and boom, it’s back to normal.

The Falco eMotors bike can go from 30-100 miles (48-161 kilometers) on a full charge of the 400Wh battery, which varies depending on just how much help the motor is providing. This means that most riders will be able to get to work or school and back for a few days before having to unlock and remove the battery for charging. That’s right – the battery securely locks into place on the bike frame so you don’t have to worry that your investment will be removed while you’re hard at work.

""

These bikes feature powerful 350 watt motors for US customers and 250 watt motors for customers in the EU where e-bike regulations are more strict. The addition of the powered hub and the battery adds 17 pounds (7.7 kilograms) to the bike.

Falco’s primary product is the eCiti, which is a fully built e-bike with a trainer bundle that ships to customers fully assembled, ready to go. For those who are interested in an e-bike but not interested in purchasing a full bike, Falco also offers the eDrive, which is a powered rear wheel/battery/trainer combination. This can simply be bolted onto an existing bike — Falco recommends using bolts to secure it, not quick releases to ensure the wheel remains secure under the torque coming from the powered hub — and wired up to the battery for an extremely fast and simple conversion of an existing bike into e-bike…with a built-in trainer.

""

Both offerings come with a full 5-year warranty and are currently available for pre-sale on the Falco website with special pre-order pricing through January 31st. Products are expected to start shipping to customers on June 30th, 2017. Scroll down below the video for the full specs on both products.
