In each society,\u00a0there are differences in how we\u00a0treat personal space. Even from one person to the next, there are differences, but for the most part, each\u00a0society has some norms.\u00a0Seattle-based landscape architecture student Peter Cromwell, in the fascinating presentation below,\u00a0shows what distances are normal “public distances,” what are normal “social distances,” what are normal “personal distances,” and what are normal “intimate distances.” He then proceeds to show how bicycling and good bicycle infrastructure put strangers within personal distances of each other (as well as social distances).
