{"id":24214,"date":"2013-11-29T16:52:49","date_gmt":"2013-11-29T16:52:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress-367309-1145710.cloudwaysapps.com\/?p=24214"},"modified":"2013-11-29T16:52:54","modified_gmt":"2013-11-29T16:52:54","slug":"top-bicycle-cities-in-us-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikocity.com\/top-bicycle-cities-in-us-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Bicycle Cities In US Are&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you were wondering which were the top bicycle cities in the US (or, to be more specific, which were the top cities for bicycle commute rates), a recent presentation given by John MacArthur of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.otrec.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium<\/a>\u00a0(OTREC) included a nice chart on just that, based on the 2012 Community Survey conducted by the US Census Bureau (h\/t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.treehugger.com\/bikes\/45-large-us-cities-ranked-percentage-bicycle-commuting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TreeHugger<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Can you name the top 10 cities before having a look?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bikocity.com\/top-bicycle-cities-in-us-are\/us-cities-bicycle-commuting-chart\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-24215\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24215\" alt=\"us-cities-bicycle-commuting-chart\" src=\"http:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/us-cities-bicycle-commuting-chart.jpg\" width=\"662\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/us-cities-bicycle-commuting-chart.jpg 662w, https:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/us-cities-bicycle-commuting-chart-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 662px) 100vw, 662px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yep, Portland has held that #1 spot for quite a while. And Minneapolis has been at the top of the charts for a long time, as well. However, I was a little surprised to see DC up at #3 (barely). But I know its bike-sharing program has done a lot to increasing bicycling in the city, as have bike infrastructure improvements.<\/p>\n<p>All across the board, though, there&#8217;s <em>a lot<\/em> of room for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope that these cities can one day get halfway to <a href=\"http:\/\/zacharyshahan.com\/6-groningen-netherlands-great-bicycle-city-photo-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Groningen&#8217;s bicycle commute rate<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In case you were wondering which were the top bicycle cities in the
