That&#8217;s going to change this week. Annual memberships will now be valid in all 15 locations in which B-cycle is located (and, presumably, in any cities where B-cycle gets rolling). The program is called B-connected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bikocity.com\/b-cycle-membership-goes-nationwide\/b-cycle\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-23050\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-23050\" alt=\"b-cycle\" src=\"http:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/b-cycle-800x532.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/b-cycle-800x532.jpg 800w, https:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/b-cycle-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikocity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/b-cycle.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this is a big win for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcycle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">B-cycle<\/a> members who like to travel and, of course, like to bike. The full list of cities where B-cycle is currently in business or about to launch is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Denver, CO<\/li>\n<li>Boulder, CO<\/li>\n<li>Madison, WI<\/li>\n<li>San Antonio, TX<\/li>\n<li>Houston, TX<\/li>\n<li>Spartanburg, SC<\/li>\n<li>Charlotte, NC<\/li>\n<li>Des Moines, IA<\/li>\n<li>Kansas City, MO<\/li>\n<li>Omaha, NE<\/li>\n<li>Nashville, TN<\/li>\n<li>Kailua, HI<\/li>\n<li>Broward County, FL.<\/li>\n<li>Fort Worth, TX (launching Spring)<\/li>\n<li>Salt Lake City, UT (launching Spring)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Quite a good spread.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dc.streetsblog.org\/2013\/03\/15\/local-b-cycle-memberships-will-be-good-in-15-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Angie Schmitt of Streetsblog DC adds<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The company has been exploring the \u201cB-connected\u201d model since last March, using Denver, Boulder, and Madison as pilot cities. If a B-cycle member incurs additional fees while in another B-cycle city (by taking a bike out longer than the allotted time limit, for instance), they will be charged by the system where the trip took place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Angie also says that B-cycle is the first\u00a0bike-share company to allow members to use other cities\u2019 systems without paying extra. I think she means within the US, because <a href=\"http:\/\/zacharyshahan.com\/bike-sharing-program-in-wroclaw-poland-1st-ride\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I&#8217;m currently a member of nextbike<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/zacharyshahan.com\/new-bike-sharing-program-in-wroclaw-poland-video-pictures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wroc\u0142aw, Poland<\/a>, \u00a0and am allowed to use their systems in other cities (other countries even) for no extra charge. For example, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nextbike.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">company has systems<\/a> in New Zealand, Turkey, Cyprus, Germany, the UK, Azerbaijan, Austria, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>With the huge number of <a href=\"http:\/\/bikocity.com\/world-bike-sharing-map\/\" target=\"_blank\">bike-sharing programs in place around the world<\/a>, I&#8217;d be surprised if B-cycle and nextbike were the only two with such an offer.<\/p>\n<p>But in any case, it&#8217;s awesome to see B-cycle &#8220;opening up its borders,&#8221; and let&#8217;s hope other bike-sharing companies follow suit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are over a dozen B-cycle bike-sharing programs across the U.S. Until now, however, membership would just be good for the city in which you signed up.
